Idaho approaches your teen’s summer job plans with a result-oriented process that helps them find the right position and right employer. Keep reading to learn how we can assist your teenager in finding a summer job.
Summer Job Goals
The first thing we do after meeting your teen is help them set employment goals. We talk with them, identify their strengths, discover their interests and abilities, and discuss overall job goals. This can include hours worked each week, short- or long-term positions, job environment, current skills, and more. If they have some goals regarding their career after high school, we consider those as they can impact the type of summer job they desire. Your teen can gain relevant work experience and acquire various life skills and job-related abilities. They may also gain relevant work experience that can enhance their future career.
Job Placement Training
Job placement involves far more than simply helping your teen find a job. We do our best to match your teen with a job that builds on their strengths, develops a positive employee/employer relationship, and honors their job goals. Our team provides individualized job-readiness training and job search assistance, which can include:
- Completing job applications and pre-employment paperwork
- Discussing appropriate work dress and hygiene
- Practicing and preparing for job interviews
- Asking for accommodations
We also offer GED support for individuals working towards completing their certificate.
Supported Employment Assistance
Your teen will receive personalized assistance that can help them obtain and maintain employment. We provide time-limited on-site training, long-term job coaching, and summer employment support services. They may also be eligible to start their new job on a trial basis, which has been shown to help individuals understand expectations, learn job-related tasks, and become familiar with their work environment.
Social Security Benefits Counseling
If your teen receives Social Security benefits or disability, our Community Work Incentives coordinator can counsel them on how a summer job may affect their benefits. Our coordinators are highly trained and thoroughly understand various Social Security benefits and other local, state, and federal assistance programs. They can help your teen understand their benefits and available options and offer support when deciding about their summer job.
