Recognizing the Impact of Treatment Foster Parents

What Is Treatment Foster Care?

Treatment Foster Care, or TFC, provides intensive care for children and youth living with behavioral, emotional, or medical needs beyond what traditional foster care can support. With TFC, our staff finds stable and compassionate temporary housing for children and youth while their biological parents learn how to create safe, nurturing, and healthy environments for their children.

What Does a TFC Parent Look Like?

Children who need Treatment Foster Care live with one of our caring and supportive Treatment Foster Care families. We train and license TFC parents in all life situations — adults who rent or own their homes, have no or any religious affiliation, live with loved ones or live alone, or have traditional or nontraditional families. If you wish to make a lasting impact on a child with a disability, you already have the most important thing needed to apply for a Treatment Foster Care license.

How RISE Works with TFC Parents

While our TFC parents safely care for foster children in their homes, our supportive and highly trained staff is right by their side, leading them to helpful resources, coordinating various services, and encouraging them through their journey. Our training is trauma-informed and strengths-based. We provide effective care by understanding their life experiences and past circumstances, offering support that focuses on strengths, not deficits, and creating a positive partnership with the child, their foster family, and their biological parents.

Why We Appreciate Our TFC Parents

TCF parents spend their lives embracing foster children living with disabilities, sharing their physical space, their time, and their love with all who find safety and peace within their homes. They attend hours of training for their initial Treatment Foster Care license and remain compliant by completing classes each year. Not only do TFC parents work with our case managers to provide services or resources their foster child may need, but they also take time driving them to appointments, meeting with providers, and potentially continuing services at home. TFC families understand that their lives may drastically change but are eager to welcome foster children into their homes, families, and lives.
