April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month—a time when communities across the nation unite to raise awareness about child abuse and strengthen prevention efforts. At RISE Services, Inc. Idaho, we’re committed to promoting safe environments for all children, including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

RISE Idaho National Child Abuse Prevention Month

National Child Abuse Prevention Month

National Child Abuse Prevention Month is more than a designated time on the calendar. It’s an opportunity to educate the community, advocate for children’s rights, and collaborate with partners to create stronger, safer support systems for our youth.

According to the Child Welfare Information Gateway, children with IDD are three times more likely to experience abuse or neglect compared to their peers without IDD. We believe every individual deserves a safe and nurturing environment in which to grow and thrive. That’s why our mission each day is to support individuals in our community by providing opportunities and resources to help them live meaningful, safe lives.

Tips to Combat Child Abuse

Preventing child abuse requires a concerted effort from everyone in the community. Here are some practical tips to help combat it and promote safer environments:

  • Educate Yourself and Others: Learn the signs of child abuse and educate those around you. Early detection can make a significant difference in a child’s life.
  • Support Families: Offer support to families you know by being a trusted friend and listener. Sometimes parents and caregivers just need someone to talk to.
  • Report Suspicious Behavior: If you suspect a child is being abused, report it to the appropriate authorities immediately. Your action could be critical in protecting that child’s well-being.
  • Get Involved: Volunteer with or donate to local organizations that protect children and support families, such as RISE Services, Inc. Idaho. You can also join us every day this month by following our National Child Abuse Prevention Month calendar for daily tips, activities, and prevention facts.

How We Support Children in Our Community

At RISE Services, Inc. Idaho, our mission is to come alongside individuals with IDD to support them as they lead fulfilling lives. We do this by:

  • Creating Safe Spaces: Our children’s services programs and opportunity centers are safe, inclusive environments where individuals feel secure and supported.
  • Empowerment: We empower individuals with IDD to have a voice in their care and support.
  • Collaboration: We partner with local organizations and advocacy groups to strengthen the safety net for individuals in our community.

At RISE Idaho, we’re driven by the belief that everyone deserves to live in a safe and loving environment. By participating in National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we hope to spread awareness, encourage community involvement, and promote practices that ensure the safety of all children.
