Celebrate Disability Pride Month With RISE Idaho
Every July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month. It’s the perfect time to recognize the talents and contributions of people with disabilities, raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, and embrace the diversity that makes our communities stronger. For RISE Services, Inc. Idaho, this month is an extension of the work we do year-round to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) as they lead empowered, fulfilling lives.

What Is Disability Pride Month?
Disability Pride Month takes place every July to commemorate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. The ADA protects the rights of people with disabilities and ensures equal opportunities across workplaces, schools, and public spaces. The celebration began with Disability Pride Day that same year.
This year’s theme, “We Belong Here, and We’re Here to Stay,” is a powerful reminder that everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported in every part of life. It’s about shifting our perspective on disabilities. Rather than seeing them as something we should change, we can embrace the uniqueness of each individual and celebrate the diverse ways we can live our lives.
How Can You Celebrate?
Are you looking for ways to celebrate this Disability Pride Month? Here are three easy steps you can take:
1. Learn
Dive into the stories and experiences of people with disabilities. Follow online creators, read books about disability history, and watch documentaries as well.
The most important part of this step? Listen. Connect face-to-face with people in your community and listen to their stories.
2. Share
Spread the word! Share articles, resources, or stories online, and use hashtags like #DisabilityPride and #DisabilityPrideMonth to join the conversation.
If you have a disability, share your experiences. Whether it’s connecting with a close friend or with a community online, your voice is valuable.
3. Support
Get involved! Join local events that celebrate inclusion and empowerment, donate money to programs that support people with disabilities, and connect with organizations like RISE Services, Inc. Idaho. We offer a wide range of support services year-round for people with IDD.
